My name is Nate Bittle, I have been employed with this department for
approximately 19 years. I have been fortunate and blessed. But my most
recent experiences have been horrifying for my family and my self. On
12-31-2007 I found a note on my car stating to the media and tell who
killed Darrell Leslie or move my Family. Since then there has been a
number of incidents the latest beeing the drive by shooting of my home
which occurred approximately 2-3 weeks after the District Attorney
announced that no charges would be filed. Due to the stress of this
situation I have been out of work. I have received lots of calls from my
Brother and Sisters of local 419. I have been denied Workmens comp
because the institution feels this is not work related. Ask your self
what would I do, I must relocate during this difficult time,my family is
afraid to come home this is taking a serious toll on my relationship
with my spouse and other family members my life has been changed for
ever. Once again ask your self "what would you do".
All responses and comments are welcome. Thanks Nate Bittle. |
Hi
everyone, here is a voice from the past just wanting to let you know
what is going on with our retirement benefits. When I retired,
along with many others, we were promised that our benefits would be
ours forever. I was told not to sign up for Medicare B as the
insurance benefits were mine for life. Now I am told, I must sign
up for Medicare B at a monthly cost of $220.00 for my wife and I
and since I hadn't signed, nor had she, when we reached 65, we are
incurring a penalty which amounts to almost another $100.00 per
month for our lifetime. This along with the change in insurance
is going to cost us approximately $500.00 per month. I understand
the State will take over the penalty charge, but how much faith can
we have in that????? Since the State is taking over the Penal
Dept., we are forced to take their benefits. It is strange that the
retirees are still being paid by the City of Boston....which makes
me think that we should still be eligible for the benefits granted
to the City of Boston Retirees. This is happening to all retirees.
Sure doesn't sound right. Good luck to all.
Don Ahern (don@retiredatlast.com)
Hello
local 419 members,
Here is another voice from the past. I’d like to add to Don Ahern’s
e-mail concerning the new retirement benefits from GIC and the
changes that required him and his wife to sign up for Medicare and
required me and my family to change our health insurance plan. You
are all probably aware of the fact that the State of Massachusetts
has taken over for the Suffolk County Sheriff Department’s retiree
health insurance and will eventually take over the health insurance
for local 419 members. This may not be important to members of local
419 at the present time, especially some of you younger people. But,
you should be concerned. If the state can change the rules for
retirees whenever they choose, then they will most likely be able to
change the rules for active members of local 419. What does
collective bargaining mean if state government can change the rules
at will? Think about it.
